POBLACIÓN PENITENCIARIA SEGÚN SITUACIÓN JURÍDICA

3.1.- Situación jurídica y género de la población penitenciaria

La situación jurídica es una variable que tiene como objetivo conocer las condiciones de la POPE
en su aspecto legal. De la población total del mes de abril de 2012, los procesados constituyen el
58.42% y los sentenciados el 41.58%. Se observa que la población ha registrado un aumento de
1,279 internos respecto al mes anterior, siendo actualmente de 56,586 internos; el total de
hombres aumentó en 1,167 internos, mientras que el total de mujeres aumentó en 112 internas.
El 93.77% de internos es masculino y el 6.23% femenino.
